Whether a dog is recovering from surgery, over weight, involved in sporting activities or just getting older and showing a reluctance to exercise; we aim to provide a
rehabilitation programme to meet each individuals needs, maximising the functional improvement of the dog with a multi disciplinary approach that will compliment the prescribed veterinary treatment.
A successful programme depends on close collaboration between the veterinary surgeon, owner and the rehabilitation team who are designing and implementing treatments.
We aim to offer a comprehensive rehabilitation programme, tailored to each
individuals requirements, as well as fun and fitness sessions in the pool.
HYDROTHERAPY
The Aquatic Treadmill
We have
a state of the art aquatic treadmill. Exercises preformed in the aquatic
treadmill are of benefit in many orthopaedic
conditions both pre-operatively to improve muscle tone to
the affected limb and cardiovascular fitness and post- operatively in
the restoration of muscle function and an
increased range of motion.
The Aquatic Treadmill ensures control over
limb placement and usage, rather than free swimming
in which very little limb control is possible.
The water level can be useful in determining
the angle of flexion or extension of joints. The treadmill
can also be used to assist fitness programmes.
The Pool
The 16 x 10pool affords the same benefits as the treadmill excepting the control over limb placement. Many dogs enjoy swimming for fun, fitness and retrieving toys. They can benefit immensely both physically and in their mental well being.

PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy has a large role to
play in rehabilitation; it is of tremendous benefit in patients with joint
problems and is an essential aid to the rehabilitation of animals following
musculoskeletal operations.
Physiotherapy is a science-based profession, which aims to enhance the
bodies natural healing mechanisms and restore movement and function.
Physiotherapy assessment and treatment will be provided by:
Andrea Bainbridge
MCSP MSc Cat A ACPAT physiotherapist.
Appointments can be booked, either as individual physiotherapy sessions
or as part of a rehabilitation programme.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is an ancient form of
diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease which encourages the bodys
own healing potential. It is also a useful form of therapy and can be
used to compliment conventional veterinary treatment.
The number of times your pet requires treatment will vary according to
its condition and its response to the treatment.
Additional advice on exercise, hydrotherapy, fitness programs and nutrition
may also be given at the time of treatment to maximise the benefits of
the treatment.
Acupuncture can only be performed on animals by a qualified vet. Treatment
will be administered by Fran Creaner. BVM&S MRCVS
Appointments can be booked individually or as part of a rehabilitation
programme.
