What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a science based profession which aims to enhance the body’s natural      healing mechanisms and restore movement and function. This is achieved using 3 core      skills:

Manual Therapy (e.g. massage, mobilisation and manipulation)

Electrotherapy (e.g. Ultrasound and neuromuscular stimulation)

Exercise and Movement (e.g. gait re education, balance restoration)

Animals respond well to Physiotherapy and it is useful for the following conditions:

Musculoskeletal injury- muscle, tendons and ligament problems respond well if treated           at the correct time.

Post Surgery – physio will help to reduce pain, increase healing and restore function.

Neurological – helps to re-educate balance and muscle mechanisms and so restore           function.

Spinal /Joint Problems- helps to reduce/eliminate pain and stiffness.

Prevention/ Maintenance – help to prevent injury through advice and individual exercise           programmes.

Physiotherapy assessment and treatment can be provided for your dog at Durham K9 Hydro Rehabilitation Centre by appointment as individual Physiotherapy sessions or as part of Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy rehabilitation programme.

A medical history is required from your veterinary surgeon prior to treatment.

MANY PET INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL PAY FOR PHYSIOTHERAPY IF YOUR VETERINARY SURGEON REFERS YOU.
